Welcome to the Color Shop & More

Color Shop and More

After four months of renovation, the oldest building on Main Street in Wilton NH has resumed business as "The Color Shop & More", as it is now called.

Under New Management
The store continues the tradition of selling arts supplies established over 30 years ago by Carl Anderson, who sold the business shortly before he died last August. Now under new management, the shop also carries selected fine crafts and imaginative toys, as well as a wide variety of literature including family enrichment, health, gardening, art, waldorf education, anthroposophical and childrens books. One area of the store has comfortable armchairs for relaxing and reading.. while another is reserved for homeopathic and healing remedies.  The shop exudes a relaxed, warm mood of beauty, due in part to its gently colored walls that weave a rainbow of pastel hues around the store.

The Center for Anthroposophy, which moved into the newly converted offices on the top floor of the two-story builidng in late August, has considerably expanded the mission of the store to include workshops and seminars connected with child and family development as well as Waldorf education.

Center for Anthroposophy
In addition to preparing adults to teach in Waldorf schools, the Center offers one-week Renewal courses each summer in Wilton on the adjacent campuses of Pine Hill and High Mowing for practicing teachers and those interested in deepening their understanding of Waldorf education.  During the school year, CfA organizes foundation studies in anthroposophy and the arts around the country, primarily for prospective teachers and Waldorf parents. In addition, CfA co-sponsors the training of Waldorf early childhood and elementary school teachers at Antioch University New England in Keene, NH.

A Rich History
The renovated building boasts a rich history. Built from sturdy brick and stone as Wilton's first town hall, it was the only building to survive three ravaging fires that swept through the town in 1874, 1881, and 1885. To this day one can visit two small jail cells - one marked for men, one for women - in the basement of the building.
